Catherine Garceau is a world leader blending the power of the Olympic Mindset with advocacy for mental health and wholistic living. Garceau began seeing the importance of a 360 approach to success when, after winning an Olympic Bronze medal in Synchronized Swimming in Sydney 2000, she found herself powerless to overcome an eating disorder. How could her willpower fail her after she had used it to climb to the top of athletic stardom?
After years of experiments and studies in mind-body nutrition, emotional freedom techniques, and mindset, she cracked the code on what was preventing her from letting go of stubborn and destructive eating habits. Focusing on emotional regulation while addressing food sensitivities was a winning formula that finally brought her to balance.
Garceau’s quest of self-discovery started in 2006 years after she stopped competing. Post graduation from the University of Toronto with a degree in Economics, Garceau went on to become a professional aquatic performer in some of the best shows in the world, including Le Reve, at the Wynn Casino in Las Vegas. Just as she was leaving her performance career in Vegas when her life took a turn as she spent a life-altering 24 hours wedged in the Red Rocks of Las Vegas. It was during this experience that she realized how much her Olympic journey was both a cause and a cover for great physical and psychological troubles. This epiphany inspired her to combine insights from her battle with eating disorders with studies in the psychology of eating and body-mind nutrition to write an inspiring and educational book Swimming Out of Water. She also developed a coaching program to help other women get into the driver’s seat of navigating their relationship with food, their body and their mind.
Garceau has been featured on CBS TV, Entertainment Tonight and Canada AM, believes that physical, emotional, and spiritual wholeness occurs when we fully embrace life’s lessons with curiosity and courage and use what we become aware of as fuel to expand our potential power.
Today, a mother of three young daughters, Garceau’s keynotes, training, and coaching can be focused based on the organization’s goals. Her character and spirit empower audiences to re-evaluate their life and ‘SYNC UP’ to their greatest power, no matter what challenges they face.
