Jana Schmieding Biography
Jana Schmieding, a Mniconjou and Sicangu Lakota actor, writer, and comedian, is not only known for writing and acting on the Peacock comedy "Rutherford Falls" but also for her role in the TV show "Reservation Dogs." Born and raised in rural Oregon, Schmieding pursued her theater arts studies at the University of Oregon and later earned her Master's in Teaching from Mercy College in New York. She then served as a public school teacher in New York City for ten years, performing improv during the evenings with the Magnet Theater before relocating to Los Angeles to further her television career.
In the New York City improv and sketch comedy scene, Schmieding honed her skills by writing, performing, and directing regularly. She also hosted "Woman of Size," a podcast that she ran between 2017 and 2019, where she and guests explored experiences of discrimination related to body size. Schmieding was hired as one of twelve writers on "Rutherford Falls" and co-starred in the show opposite Ed Helms, gaining recognition for her on-screen performance. Schmieding's passion project, Aunty Chuck, draws inspiration from the American comedy Uncle Buck.
Throughout her career, Schmieding has appeared in various TV shows and films, including "Clone High."
