It is almost so simple that you could overlook it - the power of mattering. It is how a child knows they are loved; a friend knows they are seen, and a professional knows they make a difference. Mattering is the feeling of being valued by others and having the opportunity to add meaningful value in return.

Jennifer B. Wallace took a hard look at the rising rates of anxiety, depression, and suicide that we are facing today. She concluded that mattering is shockingly absent from our society – from individual households, schools, workplaces, and entire communities. Consequently, Wallace co- founded the Mattering Movement with a tangible sense of urgency.

She broke open the floodgates with her WSJ article, "The Power of Mattering" at Work. With the Great Resignation on one hand and the rise in mental health challenges on the other, Wallace’s insights have endeared her to many. Chief among them are parents who have found her latest book, "Never Enough: When Achievement Pressure Becomes Toxic – and What We Can Do About It," a useful parental guide. The incessant and relentless desire to matter drives individuals into spiraling cycles to prove they are “enough” while thirsting for achievement and approval. The goal of the Mattering Movement is to help people of all ages to learn the skills and tools to enact meaningful social change by identifying genuine needs, big or small.

As individuals and institutions strike the balance between well-being, healthy achievement, and collective corporate reflections are the fodder for change.

Wallace is an award-winning journalist and author. She is a frequent contributor to The Wall Street Journal and The Washington Post and appears on national television to discuss her articles and relevant topics in the news. After graduating from Harvard College, Wallace began her journalism career at CBS “60 Minutes,” where she was part of a team that won The Robert F. Kennedy Award for Excellence in Journalism. She is a Journalism Fellow at The Center for Parent and Teen Communication at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

Wallace serves on the board of the Coalition for the Homeless in New York City, where she lives with her husband and their three children.
