Julianne Malveaux Biography
Dr. Julianne Malveaux is President Emerita of Bennett College for Women. As an accomplished economist, author, and commentator, her writings have been featured in "USA Today," "Black Issues in Higher Education," "Ms. Magazine," "Essence Magazine," "The Progressive," and several other publications.
Malveaux has made frequent appearances on national network programs, including CNN, BET, PBS, NBC, ABC, Fox News, MSNBC, CNBC, C-SPAN, and others. She is frequently requested for commentary on subjects ranging from economics to women's rights and public policy, and has hosted both television and radio programs. Recently, she has been working on a new book titled "Black Money: Then, Now and In the Future," which is set to explore public policy, racism, and income and wealth gaps.
In addition to her media presence, Dr. Malveaux is a dedicated activist and civic leader. She currently serves on the boards of the Economic Policy Institute and The Black Doctoral Network. Furthermore, Dr. Malveaux is the President of PUSH Excel, the educational branch of the Rainbow PUSH Coalition, and founder and president of Economic Education, a non-profit organization focused on personal finance and economic policy education. These roles underscore her commitment to economic and educational policy advocacy.
Dr. Malveaux has also lectured at more than 500 colleges, universities, and corporate events, emphasizing her expertise in economics, civil rights, and social justice. Her contributions to these discussions enrich debates on the national stage, leveraging her extensive knowledge and experience to educate and engage audiences. Dr. Julianne Malveaux on environmental racism and toxic neglect
Historically, this country has turned a blind eye to the many environmental injustices that plague communities of color. Terms like climate change and environmental racism weren’t even a part of the American lexicon until recently. Back in the day, we lived in homes with lead paint and it was nothing to see old tires dumped alongside the road. Black clouds from steel mills and coal mines drifting over the heads of little Black and Brown boys and girls playing outside meant nothing to us – it was just a part of what Marvin Gaye called “Inner City Blues.” The time has come to change that narrative. We can no longer allow our children and our communities to suffer from neglect and a calculus that values some lives over others.
