Kerby Jean-Raymond

Keynote Speaker: Founder of Pyer Moss, Global Creative Director at Reebok, First Black Designer to present at Paris Couture Week

Kerby Jean-Raymond Biography

Kerby Jean-Raymond is an American fashion designer and founder of the menswear label Pyer Moss. Since starting Pyer Moss in 2013, he has focused the label’s efforts on social justice and the black American experience, from tees that read “Stop calling 911 on the culture” to a shimmering beaded gown depicting a black father holding his newborn. He initially faced backlash for his outspokenness, but today Jean-Raymond is in high demand: He won the $400,000 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund in November 2018, and has collaborated with brands like HBO, Moet Hennessy, and Fubu. His most recent partnership with Reebok includes a sneaker deal as well as apparel collections.

Jean-Raymond first came into the spotlight for his presentation of Pyer Moss' Spring 2016 Menswear Collection during New York Fashion Week. The show highlighted police brutality, referencing the 'Black Lives Matter' movement through the use of video, street art, and fashion. As well he collaborated with R&B singer and activist Erykah Badu who styled the Pyer Moss AW16 line for the 2016 New York Fashion Week show. The featured collection was titled "Double Bind."

His brand, Pyer Moss, won the FGI Rising Star Award in the menswear category in 2014. Also in 2014, he was a finalist in the DHL Exported Prize presented by IMG Worldwide. He was recognized by the Fobes 30 Under 30 list in 2015.

Jean-Raymond, who styles Usher's live performances, uses fabrics like wool, microfiber and Italian lambskin to make twists on classics like a black and white microfiber men's shirt whose top is white with long triangular cut-outs.
