Kevin Bacon Biography
Kevin Bacon is an actor who made his film debut as Chip in National Lampoon's Animal House, and his breakthrough role came with the musical-drama film Footloose. Bacon's ability to take on both starring roles and powerful supporting characters has allowed him to build a diverse body of work. His work ranges across film genres from action thrillers to romantic comedies to heavy dramas, and even the occasional musical.
Some of Bacon's notable film credits include Tremors, Flatliners, JFK, A Few Good Men, The River Wild (for which he earned a Golden Globe nomination), Apollo 13, Mystic River (for which he received Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations), and Frost/Nixon. In his directorial debut, Losing Chase, Bacon worked with his wife, actress Kyra Sedgwick. The film was honored with three Golden Globe nominations, and Helen Mirren won the Golden Globe for her performance. His second directorial project was Loverboy, in which he also produced and appeared.
In television, Bacon starred in the Fox drama series "The Following," playing a former FBI agent pressed into service when a serial killer escapes from prison. He also played the title role in the Amazon Prime Video series "I Love Dick," and from 2019 to 2022, he starred in the Showtime series "City on a Hill." Bacon's work in HBO's "Taking Chance" earned him a Golden Globe and the SAG Award for Best Actor in a mini-series or made-for-TV movie.
Beyond acting and directing, Bacon formed a band called The Bacon Brothers with his brother, Michael. The band, which has a sound that Bacon describes as "Forosoco" – Folk, Rock, Soul, and Country, has recorded six CDs and a concert DVD. Bacon is also known for the trivia game "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon," which he used to create SixDegrees.org, a charitable social network.
Bacon received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2003 and has received various awards throughout his career, including a Golden Globe Award and a Screen Actors Guild Award. He was honored with the Joel Siegel Award by the Broadcast Film Critics Association in 2010, and the Career Achievement in Acting Award by the Seattle International Film Festival in 2015.
Off the screen, Bacon is a brand ambassador for British mobile network operator EE. He has been married to Kyra Sedgwick since September 4, 1988, and they have starred together in several films. Bacon has spoken out for the separation of church and state and has stated that he does not believe in God. Bacon and Sedgwick appeared in will. i.am's video "It's a New Day" following Barack Obama's 2008 presidential win.
