Matthew Lieberman Biography

Matthew Lieberman is a politician, educator, and businessman with a diverse career spanning various fields. He contributes regularly on Newsmax TV and writes an email newsletter called "The Lieberman Files" on the Substack platform. His involvement in politics is marked by his roles as Senior Advisor and national surrogate on the Gore-Lieberman campaign in 2000 and the Lieberman for President campaign in 2003-2004. In addition to his political engagements, he founded Compass Benefits, Inc., a group benefits consultancy, in 2007.

Lieberman's academic contributions include research into the neural bases of social cognition and social experience, focusing on topics such as emotion regulation, persuasion, social rejection, self-knowledge, and theory of mind. His interests also extend to social cognitive neuroscience, which examines how the human brain processes social information. Utilizing functional neuroimaging (fMRI) and neuropsychology, he tests new hypotheses regarding social cognition. He is the founding editor of the journal Social Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience and has received significant recognition for his scientific work, including the APA Distinguished Scientific Award for Early Career Contribution to Psychology in 2007 and the UCLA Gold Shield Faculty Prize in 2011.

Outside of his professional endeavors, Lieberman has been actively involved in community service. He is a past President of the Jewish National Fund for the Southeast and a staunch supporter of Israel and Jewish causes. He frequently speaks on critical societal issues, such as the rise of hatred in religion and politics, the importance of challenging the two-party system, and lessons learned from his father. In 2020, he was a candidate in the Democratic contest for a U.S. Senate seat in Georgia, further highlighting his ongoing commitment to public service and community engagement.
