Steve Sax Biography
Steve Sax's 18-year baseball career includes numerous highlights such as being a five-time All-Star and winning the "National League Rookie of the Year" award in 1982. His tenure as a second baseman began with the Los Angeles Dodgers, where his defensive skills contributed significantly to the team securing two World Series titles. Sax then moved on to play for the New York Yankees, the Chicago White Sox, and the Oakland A's.
In 1983, early in his career, Sax faced considerable personal challenges, including a mental block that nearly derailed his career at the age of twenty-three. He openly discusses the methods he used to confront and manage this issue, which not only allowed him to continue playing for many years but also to advocate for mental health awareness. Post-retirement, Sax transitioned into broadcasting, providing analysis on ESPN and Fox Sports' Prime Time.
Sax also pursued acting, appearing on TV shows such as "Sabrina the Teenage Witch," "Good Morning America," and "Who's the Boss?". His film roles include a supporting part in "Ground Control" with Keifer Sutherland. Additionally, Sax contributed to the WALL STREET JOURNAL with an article on personal responsibility and self-reliance, which earned recognition from the President of the United States.
In 2012, Sax took on a coaching role as the first base coach for the Arizona Diamondbacks, though his tenure ended in October 2013. He later joined the Los Angeles Dodgers organization again, working within the team's Community Relations team as an Alumni member as of 2015.
Sax is also active in broadcasting as a host on SiriusXM's MLB Network Radio. He continues to impact the community through his Steve Sax Foundation, which focuses on mentoring youth in America. His book, "Shift: Change Your Mindset and You Change Your World", reflects his journey and the strategies that have helped him and others achieve personal and professional success.
