T.J. Holmes Biography
T.J. Holmes is an award-winning journalist and co-anchor of "America This Morning" and "World News Now." He joined ABC News as an anchor/correspondent in September 2014, and contributes daily to "Good Morning America," the most-watched network morning program.
Holmes first gained national prominence during his time at CNN, where he spent 5 years as anchor of "CNN Saturday/Sunday Morning" and covered numerous breaking news events. He reported on major incidents such as Saddam Hussein’s execution in 2006, the terrorist attacks in Mumbai, India in 2008, and at Glasgow Airport in 2007. Holmes also reported from the scene of several impactful stories including the devastating Joplin, Missouri tornadoes, the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in New Orleans, and the tragic shootings at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia. His extensive coverage includes the crisis of US Airways Flight 1549 that crash-landed in New York’s Hudson River in January 2009. He contributed to CNN's coverage of the Gulf Oil Spill and the 2008 Presidential primary campaigns, which helped CNN secure Peabody Awards.
Holmes has also ventured into other broadcasting roles, hosting the late-night hybrid talk show "DON'T SLEEP!," which garnered him an NAACP Image Award Nomination. Beyond journalism, he is actively involved in academia and community service. He serves on the chancellor's board of advisors at the University of Arkansas and on the board of visitors at Emory University in Atlanta. He is a member of the 100 Black Men of Atlanta and the National Association of Black Journalists. He has been recognized for his contributions to the community and journalism, being named to The Grio's "100 List of History Makers" and The Root's "100 List of Influential African Americans."
Holmes is a graduate of the University of Arkansas and has consistently been involved in mentoring and community service throughout his career.
