There seems to be no end to the public’s fascination with headline making cases. From the Casey Anthony trial in Florida to genocide cases half a world away in Rwanda, ultimately the outcomes rest on the forensic evidence.
Kathy Reichs offers audiences a true insider’s look at how forensic science is used in these high profile cases. How, literally, bones, bugs, chemistry, odors, all play a part in learning the truth.
From teaching FBI agents how to detect and recover human remains, to separating and identifying commingled body parts in her Montreal lab, as a forensic anthropologist Kathy Reichs has brought her own dramatic work experience to her mesmerizing forensic thrillers.
For years she consulted to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in North Carolina, and continues to do so for the Laboratoire de Sciences Judiciaires et de Médecine Légale for the province of Québec. Dr. Reichs has travelled to Rwanda to testify at the UN Tribunal on Genocide, and helped exhume a mass grave in Guatemala. As part of her work at JPAC (Formerly CILHI) she aided in the identification of war dead from World War II, Korea, and Southeast Asia. Dr. Reichs also assisted with identifying remains found at Ground Zero of the World Trade Center following the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
Dr. Reichs is one of only eighty-two forensic anthropologists ever certified by the American Board of Forensic Anthropology and she served on the Board of Directors and as Vice President of both the American Academy of Forensic Sciences and the American Board of Forensic Anthropology.
When she's not working for North Carolina's chief medical examiner in Charlotte, and for Quebec's central crime lab in Montreal, Kathy Reich writes bestselling crime novels featuring forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan, whose character inspired the hit TV show Bones.
Originally trained in archaeology, Dr. Reichs has always considered herself a scientist first. Through her books and TV show, there is an increased awareness of the subject of science, especially among girls, and she receives thousands of requests from people interested in going into her field.
From her travels around the world testifying on the subject of genocide to the process of writing, to her work on everyday cases as a forensic anthropologist, Dr. Reichs offers audiences a unique behind-the-scenes look at the fascinating worlds she inhabits.
