Marc Lore Biography
Marc Lore served as President and CEO of Walmart eCommerce U.S. from 2016 to 2021. He was appointed to lead Walmart’s U.S. e-commerce operations in September 2016, following the acquisition of Jet.com by Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. Under his leadership, Walmart expanded its online merchandise catalog eightfold, providing small merchants selling on Amazon another marketplace option to diversify their businesses. Additionally, Lore introduced free two-day shipping on Walmart.com with no membership fee and a Pickup Discount for online order pickups at local Walmart stores.
Before joining Walmart, Lore worked in the finance industry at Banker's Trust, Credit Suisse First Boston, and Sanwa Bank, after which he embarked on entrepreneurial ventures. He co-founded several companies including Jet.com and Diapers.com (initially called 1800DIAPERS), which were later rebranded under Quidsi, Inc. This venture was eventually sold to Amazon in 2011 for $545 million. Lore also co-founded Jet.com, which was featured in a Bloomberg Businessweek cover story in January 2015, highlighting its model as a shopping club with a membership fee for access to low prices. The company raised significant funding, securing $80 million in Series A funding and an additional $140 million in pre-launch funding.
Lore left Walmart in January 2021 and continues to oversee Jet.com, a company known for its appeal to millennial and urban shoppers. He plans to devote more time to philanthropy, advising startups, serving on public company boards, and developing creative projects, including working on a book and a TV show.
