Willie Geist Biography
Willie Geist is the host of NBC News’ "Sunday Today with Willie Geist" and co-host of MSNBC’s "Morning Joe." He also serves as a regular host and contributor to "TODAY," "NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt," and "Meet the Press." Previously, Geist hosted "Way Too Early with Willie Geist" on MSNBC, which served as the lead-in to "Morning Joe." Additionally, he hosts "Zeitgeist," a satirical video blog on msnbc.com.
Geist joined MSNBC in 2005 as a senior producer of "The Situation with Tucker Carlson." During the show’s development, producers recognized Geist’s engaging newsroom banter with Carlson and incorporated it into the show. Geist handled the last segment of "The Situation" (later called "Tucker"), where he reported and offered his unique spin on the day’s news.
Before his tenure at MSNBC, Geist worked in sports television. He was a producer and writer for the sports debate show "I, Max," hosted by Max Kellerman on Fox Sports Net. His journalism career began at CNN/Sports Illustrated, a 24-hour sports network based in Atlanta, where he started as an editor and producer. He later became a field producer and reporter for CNN Sports, covering major events such as The Super Bowl, The NCAA Final Four, and The Masters. Geist is also an author of three books, including the New York Times best-sellers "Good Talk, Dad" and "American Freak Show." He graduated from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, where he was a contributing editor of The Vanderbilt Hustler. Geist resides in New York City with his wife and two children.
