Aneesh Chopra Speaking Topics

Innovative State: Growth Opportunities for Entrepreneurs and Innovators Topics: Big Data Business Growth/Strategy/Trends Education Energy - Alternative & Technology Health Care Science Information Technology Innovation Leadership On his initial day in office, President Obama directed the United States’ first chief technology officer to foster a more open and transparent government. Aneesh Chopra helped usher in a new era of collaboration with the private sector, one that focused on creating the jobs and industries of the future while solving key problems in the public and regulated sectors of the economy. Drawing on his experience of promoting productivity growth through the “impatient convening” role of government, Chopra set forth to tap the expertise of the American people. Borrowing techniques from the most state-of-the-art companies, he developed an “open innovation” strategy to make government smarter and more responsive to private sector demands. In this enlightening presentation, Chopra explores future possibilities for data innovation to improve key growth markets, including health care, energy and education, illustrated by his recent work to apply data analytics to improve matchmaking between employers, job seekers and training programs. He shares with audiences his insights on how organizations can apply similar approaches to develop new products and services to meet growing customer demands.

Opening Up While Locking Down: Balancing Collaboration and Security in Regulated Markets Topics: Business Growth/Strategy/Trends Change: Managing/Leading It Cyber Security Information Technology Innovation As President Obama’s first chief technology officer, Aneesh Chopra fostered greater collaboration by opening up government data and encouraging its use in a growing number of commercial products and services. Despite the widespread economic benefits of open collaboration, Chopra understood the importance of protecting sensitive data from growing cybersecurity threats and worked to address them in the Administration’s open innovation strategy. Drawing on his experiences, Chopra shares his expertise and unique perspective on many of the complex, urgent issues balancing the economic benefits of greater collaboration with the potential costs of rising cybersecurity threats in this informative and thought-provoking presentation. How do we bring together the private sector and government in order to identify common threats? How do we deal with these threats without undermining privacy? Chopra tackles these tough questions and addresses the most pressing topics of the day, including the current challenges in our legal framework, options to mitigate cybersecurity threats, and what each individual and organization can do to make our networks more secure and reliable today.

Connecting the Dots: How Empowered Consumers, Their Connected Health IT Apps, Payment Reform and Open Health Data Will Accelerate Care Delivery Innovation Topics: Big Data Business Growth/Strategy/Trends Change: Managing/Leading It Health Care Science Information Technology Innovation As President Obama’s first chief technology officer, Aneesh Chopra fostered greater collaboration by opening up government data and encouraging its use in a growing number of commercial products and services, with particular emphasis in health care. Coupled with the Administration’s efforts to catalyze the adoption of health IT through its “meaningful use” incentive program and accelerate the transition towards value-based payment, Chopra believes we are entering a golden era of IT-fueled care delivery innovation. He will share his view of consumers taking a more active role in navigating the health care delivery system, empowered with greater access to their own data and the growing number of apps and navigation support services that can ensure they seek the right care in the right setting at the right time. He will focus on the need for health care organizations to build the necessary foundation for organizing, enriching and (securely) sharing patient health data, including recent efforts to open up data across EHRs, payers, government and the growing ecosystem of remote monitoring services to enable population health and accomplish true interoperability.

Harnessing the Power of Technology to Compete in the 21st Century

Appointed by President Obama on his first day of office, Aneesh Chopra stepped into the newly created position of Chief Technology Officer of the United States. Tapped to promote innovation in government, Chopra borrowed techniques from the most state-of-the-art companies—Procter & Gamble’s “Connect+Develop” strategy which sources 50% of its innovations from outside the organization; Amazon’s “Just Do It” awards to celebrate innovative ideas from within; and Facebook’s “Development Platform” that generates hundreds of thousands of jobs in the broader economy. Chopra developed an "open innovation" strategy that tapped citizen expertise to make government smarter and more responsive to private sector demands. As he comments on the key technology trends that confront public and private sector organizations, including the growth of mobile broadband, the importance of privacy and security and the promise of new collaboration tools, Chopra will share his insights on how organizations can effectively develop new products and services to meet growing customer demands.

The Promise of Open Innovation—Unlocking High-Growth Markets Through Collaboration

On his initial day in office, President Obama directed the United States’ first Chief Technology Officer, Aneesh Chopra, to develop a more open and transparent government. Chopra was tasked with the massive challenge of ushering in a new era of collaboration with the private sector, one which focused on creating the jobs and industries of the future. Drawing on his experience of promoting productivity growth in public and regulated sectors of the economy while utilizing the "impatient convening" role of government, Chopra set forth to find solutions. By sponsoring prizes, promoting challenges and competitions to tap into citizen problem solvers, lowering barriers to entry through engagement in standards activities and opening data to spur the development of new products and services, Chopra made the impossible possible. Chopra will share his insights on three key growth markets: - Health care as it shifts towards value-based payment, - Energy as it harnesses a smarter electrical grid, - Education as it personalizes learning through education technology.
