Dr. Jack Groppel Biography
Co-founder of the Human Performance Institute, Dr. Jack Groppel is an internationally recognized authority and pioneer in the science of human performance. He currently holds the position of Vice President of Applied Science and Performance Training at Wellness & Prevention, Inc., a Johnson & Johnson company, and is Co-Chair of the Global Alliance for Health & Performance.
Dr. Groppel also serves as a Professor of Kinesiology & Community Health at the University of Illinois. He previously served as an Adjunct Professor of Management at the J.L. Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University from 2002 to 2009. His academic roles reflect his commitment to integrating physical and mental wellness into corporate and athletic performance.
Dr. Groppel has been a prominent speaker at significant policy events, including the United Nations Side Event for Physical Activity and Non-Communicable Disease, and three U.S. Congressional Briefings on Worksite Wellness & Health Promotion. He continues his advocacy as the National Spokesperson for the CEO Pledge for Physical Activity of the National Coalition for Promoting Physical Activity, and as Co-Chair of the Health Enhancement Research Organization (HERO) Health, Performance & Productivity Study Committee.
An accomplished Kilimanjaro climber, post knee replacements, Dr. Groppel is a Fellow in both the American College of Sports Medicine and the American College of Nutrition. He is also a Board-certified nutritionist and a former Research Associate to the U.S. Olympic Training Center. His extensive experience includes serving as Vice President on the National Board of Directors of the United States Professional Tennis Association (USTA) and dedicating 16 years as Chairman of the National Sport Science Committee for the USTA. Dr. Groppel is a Life Member of the National Eagle Scout Association.
As an author, Dr. Groppel wrote "The Corporate Athlete" and co-authored "The Corporate Athlete Advantage," where he discusses achieving peak performance in business and life by adopting a training mentality similar to that of professional athletes. His development of the Corporate Athlete® concept during his tenure as an associate professor of kinesiology and bioengineering at the University of Illinois has been instrumental in boosting performance levels across various sectors. Together with Dr. Jim Loehr, he expanded this program into what is now the Human Performance Institute. Dr. Groppel has also contributed over 400 articles on stress, fitness, and nutrition.
